I am an artist from the Republic of Armenia.
From May 6 to May 15, 2023, an exhibition of my works was held in
"Pyunik Development center" (address: Yerevan, Buzand 3)
I became interested in the topic of mental disorders after watching the 2001 documentary "Outcasts". This movie is about the Vardenis Psychiatric Hospital and the long-term residents who live there. It struck me that they are all freer than we are, those who are on the other side of the grid. Each of these people is a person; each of them has feelings that they are not afraid to openly express.
With my work I want to remove the stigma from people with mental disabilities and destroy stereotypes about them; I want to tear down the "walls" that "healthy" people have built around psychiatric hospitals. The chairs in my works are metaphorical empty seats in such establishments for each of us.
